Dimes Money Wii Selling

Two news items dropped today that are proving that the Nintendo Wii is having a very merry holiday season.

Nintendo sold over 800,000 Wii during the week of Thanksgiving.  That includes the typically biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday.  Nintendo sold just over 800,000 in October 2008.  Now they have sold that in just one week.  Last year, Nintendo moved 350,000 Wii consoles during the same period.  That is more than double and shows that demand for the Wii hasn’t slowed in the last year or during a deepening recession.  What has changed is the supply side of the equation this year.  There are more Wii consoles on store shelves for the consumers that are demanding them.  Which leads us to the next story…

Walmart has Wii in stock for 2008 holidaysWalmart made a splashy announcement that they will be making tens of thousands of Nintendo Wii consoles, one of the hottest selling gifts this season, available for purchase today online.  Which leads us to believe that the US supply of Wiis are much higher than in previous years.  Walmart made a point of talking up the Wii supply, game deals, accessories, and bundles.  What is notibly absent from the announcement was any mention of Wii Fit availability at Walmart.  That is of course out of stock on their site except for the Wii console/Wii Fit bundles.
